On the Friday the 15th, 22nd and 29th July the Kilmore Swimming Club sent two teams off to compete in the Swimming Victoria Winter Interclub competition. One of the most anticipated competitions on the Kilmore calendar, all of the swimmers who compete in it love this competition. The series is relay based with teams competing for points in backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and medley relays. This season Kilmore had two teams, one in ‘C’ grade (Kilmore Navy) consisting of Alexandra Roberts, Madeleine Rhodes, Jack Tricarico, Patrick Kelly, Nathan James, James Boland, Dylan Cornish and Ethan Daws and the other in ‘F’ grade (Kilmore Royal) consisting of Alesha McIntosh, Emilie Cardamone, Grace Tricarico, Karla Page, Claudia Snowden, Siobhan Daws, Tamara Bess, James Cardamone and Lynton Pyle.
Over three nights of hectic racing, both teams swam extremely well with most of the swimmers bettering their previous bests. With most of the swimmers looking forward to the short course championship season the winter interclub competition was a great opportunity to get some fast paced racing in to help the swimmers with their speed work.
With teams from all over Melbourne competition was tough, team scores went up and down and the final positions came down to the last race for both teams. In the end Kilmore Navy finished second in their grade, taking home the runners up flag and Kilmore Royal finished third in their grade just short of second place.
“All of the swimmers really lifter in this competition as they do every year in relays” Head Coach Jennifer Lonie said “this is a great, fun and friendly competition for the swimmers, all of them really enjoy this competition because the focus is on the team and not the individuals”.
