Over the weekend of the 20-21st August the Kilmore Swimming Club made their annual trip to the Victorian Country Short Course Championships, this year held at the state of the art Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre. The competition brings together the best country swimmers from all over Victoria to compete in the pinnacle country competition for the short course season.
The Kilmore swimmers have been training hard over the past four months in the lead up to the Championships, this has paid off for the 15 swimmers who qualifying for the competition, the biggest team yet for the club. Representing the club at the competition were Tara Roberts, Alesha McIntosh, Emilie Cardamone, Grace Tricarico, Alexandra Roberts, Madeleine Rhodes, Tamara Bess, Olivia Boland, Emma Pendlebury, Jack Tricarico, Patrick Kelly, James Boland, Dylan Cornish, Ethan Daws and Lynton Pyle. The team of swimmers were joined by Coaches Jennifer Lonie, Noelene and Lynton Pyle and a large contingency of parent supporters.
The 15 Kilmore swimmers competed in 56 events over four session in two days, keeping the coaches very busy! Whether they were a seasoned competitor or this was their first taste of Championship competition, all of the swimmers proudly represented the club both in their performance and pool deck conduct. With all of the swimmers swimming on or under their previous best it made for a very exciting and successful meet for the club.
Alex, Ethan and Emma all finished with top ten placings, a fantastic achievement. Our Multiclass swimmer Ethan Daws finished with two podium finishes placing 2nd in both the 50 breast and 100 free after points were allocated.
At the end of the meet Kilmore finished in 17 place out of the 37 clubs competing with a total points score of 114. The clubs best result at the Championships yet!
“The swimmers have all worked really hard over the past 16 weeks in the lead up to this competition” performance coach Lynton Pyle said “their racing skills have improved over last year which is fantastic and will put them in good stead for the upcoming long course season”.
Head Coach Jennifer Lonie commented “we are really proud of all our swimmers, each and every one of them has represented the club to the absolute best of their ability and should be very proud of their achievements”.
Next on the calendar for the club is the Victorian Short Course Championships held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in September.
