Country Championships

Over the weekend of the 15th of January 2016 The Kilmore Swimming Club sent swimmers Emilie, Alex, Tamara, Olivia, Patrick, Dylan and Ethan along with Coaches Jennifer, Noelene and Lynton to compete in the Victorian Country Championships held in Bendigo. The team of seven swimmers competed in 16 events over the three days meet and produced some fantastic results for themselves and the club.

Session one saw Olivia Pb in both of her events, swimming a 34.56 in the 50 butterfly and a 37.70 in the 50 backstroke. Two great swim by Olivia which also qualified her for the Victorian Sprint Championships. Patrick then competed in the 100 breaststroke which was also his debut country swim. Patrick powered down the pool and stormed home to finish in a new Pb of 1:23.97, taking almost five seconds off his previous best, quite an impressive debut swim.

In Session two we had Ethan competing in two events; the first was the 50 Breast where Ethan swam a two second PB to finish in a time of 44.99 which was enough for him to place first on the podium. Ethan’s second swim was the 50 fly where Ethan swam another PB finishing in 37.86 placing him second over all.

Session 3 was a big one with Emilie, Alex, Tamara, Olivia and Dylan all competing. Alex was up for the first of her two 100 Flys, Alex finished strong to complete the event in a time of 1:18.34. Next up was Emilie who swam a fantastic effort in her 100 breast (also her debut country swim) touching in a time of 1:39.97, just off her Pb. In the 50 breast Olivia swam a strong and impressive swim to finish with a new PB time of 43.82. Tamara was up next in the 100 back, Tamara gave it her all hitting the wall in a seasonal best time of 1:18.18, just on equalling her PB. Alex was up again for her second 100 fly, all warmed up from her first 100 fly, Alex swam a strong effort improving on her first swim to complete the event in a time of 1:17.22. The it was Dylan’s turn; swimming in the 100 free, powering down the pool putting in an enormous effort and finishing in a time of 1:02.28. The last swim of the session and Olivia’s last swim of the meet was the hotly contended 50 free. Olivia charged up the pool to finish in a 32.09, finishing off her Country Championships campaign with four new Pb’s.

Session four saw Ethan competing in the 50 back and 50 free. Ethan’s first swim was the 50 back; going in with no expectations Ethan finished first on the podium with a new PB of 44.75.
Finishing off a successful weekend Ethan’s last swim was the 50 free, pumped for this event Ethan stormed down the pool and hit the wall in 3rd place, however once points were allocated Ethan was bumped up to 1st place for the podium.

Session five was our last session for the 2016 Country Championships with Alex and Dylan swimming in the 100 free and 100 breast respectively. In a very competitive event Alex smash out a 30.98 in her first 50 and finished on the wall in a time of 1:06.29. Dylan again gave it everything in his 100 breast, keeping his stroke strong, holding his technique and working his skills paid off with a new PB of 1:24.92.

“Overall we have had a very successful weekend” head coach Jennifer Lonie remarked “It’s great to see their hard work paying off in the form of new Pb’s, we are very proud of them”.

Kilmore finished in 24th place out of 43 club’s with a points score of 84, not bad for a little country club!
