24th Annual Western Regional Swim Meet

The Kilmore Swimming Club sent a small team of 13 swimmers to compete in the 24th Annual Western Region swim meet held at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre on Sunday 5th June. The team consisting of Tamara Bess, Alana, Emilie and James Cardamone, Ethan Daws, Jay Finn, Niamh Ireland, Nathan James, Cassidy and Karla Page, Lynton Pyle, Madeleine Rhodes and Alexandra Roberts who all headed down early on the Sunday morning to make their mark on the meet.

Since the Kilmore Annual Swim Meet a few weeks ago the swimmer have all been training hard in the lead up to the Victorian Country Championships, and it shows. Lead by their captains Tamara, Cassidy and Jay and full of team spirit, the swimmers literally dove head first into the competition and achieved some fantastic results. All of the swimmers swam on or better than their previous best which is a great result for the swimmers and the club. Niamh organised the female swimmers into a couple of great relay teams that placed fourth in the 4 x 50 Freestyle and third in the 4 x 50 Medley against some strong competition.

“We are very proud of their achievements at this meet, they have been working very hard over the past few week” Head Coach Jennifer Lonie said “Since Lynton and I attended the Silver Licence Coaching course at the ASCTA conference on the Gold Coast earlier in the year we have made some big changes to the program. It’s a little bit of trial and error, but at this stage it all seems to be working well as the swimmers are progressively improving, which is really great”.

The swimmers efforts did not go unnoticed either; the club was awarded Champion Country Club of the meet with a point’s score of 266 points, not bad for a small team from a little country club!

The next event for the Kilmore Swimming Club will be the annual Winter Interclub relay competition hosted but Swimming Victoria that runs over three Friday nights at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. For the first time ever Kilmore is entering two teams in the competition! Stay tuned for more news.
