Victorian Institute of Sport Tour

On the 17th of May, a number of swimmers both competitive and non-competitive squads attended a tour of the VIS. The tour was guided by Rick Wall, the marketing and community projects Co-ordinator, along Travis Mahoney, a VIS swimmer and Commonwealth Games Team Member, whose main events include the 200m and 400m IM. During the tour we were shown a number of the facilities inside the VIS such as the gym, the altitude and temperature training rooms, as well as the sports research laboratory. Apart from just being shown around, the simmers partook in team exercises, these included working as a group to all do a push-up without anyone having their feet or knees on the floor.

Travis and Rick also took the time to answer numerous questions from swimmers, ranging from Travis’s hardest sessions all the way around to the social life at the VIS. The tour and experience was very worthwhile and I feel as though many of the swimmers would have come away from it with clearer goals and a more determined attitude after seeing where they may end up in the future.
