District Encouragement Meet

On a sunny 35 degree day the Kilmore Swimming Club set off for their first meet of 2016, the District 22 Encouragement Meet which was held at the Alexandra pool. Surrounded by tall leafy trees that provided great shade for all of the swimmers and spectators, the Alexandra pool is a fantastic venue to hold this meet at.

Billed as an encouragement meet, it gave the younger and newer swimmers some racing practice prior to upcoming more serious meets like All Juniors and District Championships. In addition to giving the younger swimmers an opportunity to practice their racing, it was also a good chance for the swimmer competing in the upcoming Victorian Country Championships to get some racing practice in before next week’s meet.

Over all it was quite a successful day of racing for the club with all of the swimmers having a fantastic time both in and out of the pool. In addition to having a very enjoyable day the swimmers also brought home a total of 39 medals (including 14 gold) and a stack of ribbons!

“It was a fantastic day” Performance Coach Lynton Pyle said “this meet is a great opportunity for the younger swimmers to try out events to see how they go. We had a number of our newer swimmers try out events like the 100 IM and 50 fly, it’s really good to see them stepping up and out of their comfort zone”.

The Kilmore Swimming Club would like to thank the HUGDASA committee for putting on such a terrific meet along with all of the helpers on the day for their contribution. We would especially like to thank District Secretary Lisa Bess for her hard work behind the scenes both prior to and on the day.
