Kilmore take home the flags at the SV Winter Interclub

Over three Friday nights from the 17th to the 31st of July the Kilmore Swimming Club competed in the Swimming Victoria Winter Interclub competition held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Kilmore entered two team in the senior (13/over) competition; graded into ‘C’ and ‘G’ grade the teams consisted of: Alexandra Roberts, Madeleine Rhodes, Tamara Bess, Dylan Cornish, James Boland, Jay Finn and Nicholas Langdon in the ‘C’ grade team and Kala Page, Teagan Finn, Olivia Boland, James Cardamone, Patrick Kelly, Nathan James, Ethan Daws and Lynton Pyle making up the ‘G’ grade team.

Each week teams competed in a 4 x 50m butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and medley relays along with one 4 x 100 freestyle relay. The two Kilmore teams put in an amazing effort over the three weeks of competition, all bettering their previous best times and increasing their racing skills in the lead up to Country Championships later this month. From week one Kilmore were the top point’s scorers, winning the most races in their respective grades. Kilmore continued to increase their lead each week finishing the competition as premiers with scores of 153 for the ‘C’ grade team and 171 for the ‘G’ grade team, the two highest points scores for the entire competition!

“We are very proud of what our swimmers have achieved here” head coach Jennifer Lonie said “coming home with two flag is a fantastic achievement and one the team and the club is very proud of”. “One of the main reasons for the competition is to bring the swimmers together as a team, the support the swimmers showed for each other was second to none, having the team behind the swimmers in the pool cheering helped produce some amazing swims”.

The clubs next big event will be the 2015 Country Short Course Championships which will be held in Ballarat on 22nd and 23rd August.
